Reflection
In addition to meeting General Outcome 1, the Truth and Bright Water Visual Project also met requirements of General Outcome 4. This project required us to assess the text context (4.1.1) of Truth and Bright Water and then develop our own visual assignment from our understanding of the novel. After documenting many themes throughout the book I chose the statement of my project to be “Teaching the Mirror to Deceive”. I wanted to use visual aspects such as color, balance and unity to create my project. I considered form, structure and medium (4.1.2) and decided to use a canvas to portray my statement. From there I developed content (4.1.3) by using Monroe Swimmer, Tecumseh, and certain symbols such as a paintbrush and prairie grass to establish a visual representation of deception. I incorporated organization (4.2.2) into my project by considering different positions for each object. Before gluing each symbol onto the canvas, I tried them in many different locations so that when ready to place permanently, the visual would look as balanced and unified as possible. Since we had to present in class, I felt that it was important to make it clear of the support of the details (4.2.1) in which I chose to incorporate in the visual. I also found it important to make sure that I had edited my summary for matters of correctness (4.2.4) so that when I was presenting I did not have to correct myself at all, and so that I could simply read what I had written about my visual. I thought that my visual looked fairly appealing, but after seeing other presentations in class, the project itself could have perhaps been more elaborate. However I thought that my write up was good and that the reasoning behind my choices should have lent itself well to perhaps not the most visually sound project.
